This is our OFFICIAL kickoff to what we hope will be a great adventure. Every Monday we are going to feature a different seller and their store. All of our featured sellers are artists, crafters, or hobbyists. We hope and pray that every Monday you will see some WONDERFUL finds and get inspiration from their ideas. In order to keep these features as fair and uniform as possible, every store has received the same questionnaire.
Let the MADNESS Begin!
TODAY'S FEATURED ARTISAN:
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
After many years in the business world, I am finally letting the creative/artistic side of my personality run amok! I seem to have a 10-12 year horizon with jobs and then I start looking for the next challenge. I love the saying “Leap and the net will appear.” My first leap was to leave the practice of law after 12 years and undertake a second career as an executive coach specializing in leadership development (helping people lead more effectively). I’m coming up on 10 years of running my own business, and now I want to shift focus to the creative side of me that’s been set aside for so long!
My family heritage is mixed – half Caucasian and half Korean – and I’ve lived, over my lifetime, in two countries and seven states. I’ve been lucky enough to travel to many other countries and the influences of all of this background come through in my jewelry designs. I am inspired by both by art and nature and try to bring both into each design.
Otherwise, I’m 48, married to a good guy, step-mother to two amazing grown men, and grandmother to two awesome grandchildren (of course!). J I love the outdoors (walking, scuba, biking, rock climbing, hiking) and just as much, I love a good book and to have the house to myself!!!
What's the history of your store:
My sister hand makes silver beads and after serving as a booth wench for her at Bead and Button for several years, she talked me into taking a stringing class so I could make sample necklaces with her beads. That class started me looking at beads in a whole new light and well, the buying started!
Beady Eyed Monster was born after I determined that I was buying a lot of beads and not making a lot with them (because you know there are sooo many possibilities and well, the is a hoarding tendency in my family….)! In other words, money going out, but not coming in!
What makes your store UNIQUE from all the other stores that sell a product similar to yours:
What are your favorite items that you make and list in your store:
What makes Beady Eyed Monster unique is the sense of humor or meaning I associate with each piece. I like firing up the imagination (mine and a potential customers) as people view my work, for people to have a laugh and to let the story build a connection with the customer. If it resonates, they buy. If not, they are amused and move on!
What are your favorite items that you make and list in your store:
Necklaces. I love the endless combinations that are possible when designing. Often times, I will design and then redesign as I am creating the necklace. My process is not linear and each piece evolves in a unique idea. I love collaborations where I am inspired by one of my sister’s beads or another Etsian’s beads. I have purchased from a number of Etsian’s and have quite a few projects in the works!
Tell us about your favorite item you've made:
The Never Ending Nautilus necklace (http://www.etsy.com/listing/48883845/necklace-never-ending-nautilus) pretty much sums up my whole existence! I challenge myself (and others, I’m told) to keep moving and growing personally. The growth process is not always easy, but it is on-going. You can take a break from time to time to savor where you’ve been and where you’re headed (thus the different stones, or pausing points in the necklace). The necklace serves as a reminder that life IS a journey, no matter how many times I try to make it a destination. Also, the asymmetry of the necklace is about never doing the same thing twice if I can help it!
Do you do custom orders? Tell us a little bit about your process of bringing someone's idea into reality.
I don’t mind working with someone on a custom order. It generally takes longer as we work out the details and I get to know a bit about the person. We’ll talk specifics, including budget so that there are two happy people when the piece is done! Prices depend on what type of materials are involved and how many redesigns we might go through. I’m happy for anyone to convo or email me if they are interested in a custom piece.
