Coming Soon

With a little doubt I had only half heartedly been ready to receive an awesome gift from my hubby....my own craft studio.  My studio initially began years ago at my parents house.  All my "craft stuff" was put into large bins and shoved in the corner.  When I crafted I dug out the bins, cleared off the desk & bed, and let the contents of the bins spill onto my bed, and created on my desk.

Then I got married.  With that came one big endeavor that I was not looking forward to...moving.  I learned in that I will never like moving.  Yuck.  What a hassle, what a project, and what a mess!  It seemed like the packing was never done and boxes were constantly being filled.  However, marrying the man of my dreams made it all worth it. The picture at left is the best man at our wedding & my hubby's dearest friend, Matt, my Dad, and my hubby (who wasn't my hubby yet).

That being said I moved and it was successful!  Upon my move just a month after our wedding I found myself eager to "get back to work" in my studio.  So hubby set me up an old table in the living room.  I stacked my plastic shelving underneath it and my "bins" on top of it.  Pretty soon I had a problem.  That lone table wasn't big enough.  So in early 2010, I expanded to take over the coffee table next to the table my hubby gave me.  By mid 2010 I had also taken over the cedar chest.  It seemed my crafting was expanding my leaps and bounds as Parker grew and the orders began tumbling in.

My Christmas gift in 2010 was the promise of a new studio.  My hubby (who spent many years as a contractor) designed me a studio from our porch, redesigned into a masterful space.  He handed me the plans on Christmas morning.  I screeched in excitement.  YAY!  But some set backs to my health and a busy lifestyle kept my hubby & I from building the studio.

This winter my hubby & I ventured onto a new idea.  Instead of converting the porch (which we ultimately decided that we needed to store our winter fire wood on).  We decided that we would refinish a section of the basement and give me a larger, bigger, better craft room.  And the bonus, it will cost 50% less than if we convert the porch.  Hard to believe I know.  Last week, we bought the first part of my new craft room...the tile for the floor.

So...the plans are being made and prayerfully by the Fall of 2012, Kater's Acres will have a new home.  I'm so excited.  I have been gathering craft room ideas on Pinterest.  If you have any that you'd like to share, please leave your comments.

oh Katie I am so happy for you and your new studio.
Do post photo updates as it comes along

(Perhaps you need a 'Working Parker' with his own pinboard so we can follow the journey)

Congrats Katie!

My workspace is in the process of being sorted and reworked. It kinda took over our living space too. With three teenage boys who pool table back I have no choice :)

Keep us posted!
